The keen eyed amongst you may have noticed a little activity at the far side of the main show field where the green shipping container was positioned. We are now in the process of having a permanent storage building erected which will hopefully allow us to get rid of the unsightly trailers and safely store our show field equipment. Preparation work began a few weeks ago with the careful digging up of nearly 30 trees from the new build site. These trees were then replanted in the small field. Next was the removal of the green shipping container to a new position and then on Monday 28th May Greenwood Construction arrived to start marking out the corners etc for the new build. In a week or so (when the cement is set) the steel works will start to be erected.
The good news is that the concrete has now set and the steel girders are now being erected so it is now starting to look like a real building!
Girders have gone up, the roof and sides are in place and the floor has been laid. All we need now is the roller shutter door which should be fitted wk com 14th July!
Well the roller shutter door was fitted as planned and the opening ceremony took place on Friday 18th July. The building was officially opened by President Sam Blacker and Chairman Lisa Chasney and thanks must also go to Bob Ellis and Mike Taylor for their work in overseeing the build. We had around 50 people there to witness the event and they all seemed to be very impressed with the new storage building. Once again many thanks to all those who gave us grants, made donations and generally helped out.
Below is selection of photos from the work so far and the opening ceremony.
